The People:
Rachel Tayse Baillieul is the President of Baying Hound Ltd. She also serves as the web designer, bookkeeper, and shipping manager. Her previous career included work as an educator and administrator. When not working, Rachel enjoys hiking, cooking, gardening, and needling the hounds.
Alex Baillieul is one of the founding partners of Baying Hound Ltd. He holds a Bachelors of Engineering in Materials Science Engineering from The Ohio State University. His professional life has included extensive work as an engineer in the fields of nuclear engineering, electrical engineering and hazardous waste remediation. Alex also served in the US Army as a psychological operations specialist. He transferred much of his military knowledge into Baying Hound, Ltd. while helping to develop much of the company’s initial product line.

The Business:
Baying Hound was born in 2005. Proprietors Rachel Tayse Baillieul and Alexander Baillieul began by auctioning lots of modified military helmets. Baying Hound operated as an Ebay store during 2006 and expanded to a Yahoo store in 2007.
In 2007, Rachel and Alex began looking for a more sustainable product line that met their standards for environmental and social responsibility. Metal Water Bottles, ReUsable Bags, and Earth Friendly Clothes became the focus of our products, with special emphasis on items that are responsibly sourced and manufactured.
The name Baying Hound was inspired by Rachel and Alex’s rescued Blue Tick Coonhound, Devorguilla, pictured below. Baying Hound aims to operate as a responsible ethical business. We donate a minimum of 1% of after tax profits to charities, including Capital Area Humane Society, Citizens for Humane Action, and Local Public Radio Station WCBE.
Our Dogs:
Devorguilla is a blue tick coonhound rescued in January 2002. She contributes to the business by alerting us to all deliveries and squirrel invaders with the trademark hound howl.
Hawise is an 8 pound dachshund mix adopted in March 2008. Her job is to entertain guests and test products for the chewability.
