One of the biggest changes you can make to minimize your impact on the environment is to make local food choices.  Shopping at the farmer’s market and participating in CSAs ensures your food doesn’t travel far wasting precious resources.  Usually food is minimally packaged.  Eating locally also gives you peak of the season selection which is healthier for you.

Finding local food sources can sometimes be difficult because many farmers are so busy working the fields they have little time or inclination to market themselves.

That’s where www.localharvest.org steps in.  They have a rich database of farmers, markets, restaurants and CSAs countrywide sorted by product type and location.  Their newsletter is informative but not intrusive, arriving only every few weeks or so.  The event listings could fill your whole summer with local food activities!
